In most schools, the National Reading Month is commonly celebrated with various student competitions that entail demonstrations of exemplary linguistic, communication, and reading skills, hence a double celebration of English Language and National Reading Month.
The Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) has already released the official theme for the 2018 National Reading Month celebration. According to the released DepEd Memorandum No. 175, Series of 2018, this year’s theme is: “Pagbasa: Susi sa Magandang Kinabukasan”.
Is reading really important to us? Reading is important to us because it develops the mind. Understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability. Teaching young children to read helps them develop their language skills. Learning to read is about listening and understanding as well as working out whats printed on the page.
